The Delaware General Health District’s Keep Delaware County Beautiful program is seeking volunteers to help pick litter out of the Scioto River on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Radnor Township Picnic Shelter located at 4061 State Route 203 in Radnor. Volunteers will clean up riverbanks on foot and the river channel in canoes. Canoes, trash bags and other equipment needed to collect litter will be provided along with transportation to and from launch and pickup sites and a free picnic lunch. Volunteers who own canoes are welcome to bring them.
Volunteers younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. It is requested that volunteers wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes. No bare feet or flip flops. To assist with lunch planning, volunteers are asked to contact Keep Delaware County Beautiful by Sept. 4 by calling 740-368-1700 to register.
Additional support and assistance for the 2014 River Sweep is provided by the Scioto River Valley Federation, Central Ohio Contractors, Preservation Parks of Delaware County, Radnor Township, the DKMM Solid Waste District, Ohio EPA and Pepsi.
