When the Central Ohio Symphony launches its 37th season at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, it will fill the auditorium at Gray Chapel with the sound of Brahms and works by three Latino/Hispanic composers.

The season debut concert will feature a world premiere of Recuerdos by Ohio composer Sonia Morales-Matos, along with Danzon #2 by Arturo Márquez and Huapango by José Pablo Mancayo.  The orchestra will also showcase two members of the internationally renown Dalí Quartet, violinist Simón Gollo and cellist Jesús Morales, performing the Double Concerto in A Minor by Johannes Brahms. This will be the third concert featuring the cellist Morales, brother of composer Sonia Morales-Matos and Music Director Jaimes Morales-Matos, who will begin his 13th season with the Symphony.

Executive Director Warren W. Hyer discussed the programming for the night.

“To open our season, we are exploring Hispanic heritage with our choice of artists and composers. This is a chance for us to explore one of the many cultures that make up the United States. Classical music does not come only from Europe; there is exciting and fabulous music from all over the world.”

As to the world premiere, Hyer said, “We have premiered works by Sonia Morales-Matos before. Performing her latest work allows us to continue our strong tradition of presenting a world premiere each year.”

Gollo and Morales will also hold an education outreach session at Schultz Elementary School in Delaware earlier in the week.

The Symphony’s subscription campaign is currently underway and over 550 seats have been reserved already. Season tickets for all four concerts are $78.00 and the Symphony is again offering first-time subscribers the opportunity to buy season tickets for $39.00 with seats in the 100 and 500 section of the main floor.
