Delaware Ohio’s PREMIER Meetup/Networking Event – Wednesday, May 21, 2014

image We meet again Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Barley Hopsters in Delaware (1 N. Sandusky St. ) from 6 to 8 pm. Suggested parking areas are the two City lots (N Franklin and E William (behind the BP Station)) and easy street parking within two blocks.

Please join us for our second event of the Spring! Can you think of a better way to get out and meet and greet fellow business people and those active in local social media?

image Corporate sponsors this month include  Delaware, Ohio’s hometown professional lacrosse team The Ohio Machine, Toby Boyce of Howard Hanna Realcom Realty and DelawareO.com. Our non-profit sponsor is Action for Children. We will again have announcements and the usually unpredictable business card drawing. Prizes already donated come from Benny Shoults of Frame Artistry, SJ Barakony and a backpack full of adventure for children! If you wish to donate a gift for the drawing, let me know.

We start at 6 PM and network for about 50 minutes. We have announcements, do some prize give aways and then network some more. Barley Hopsters is a gracious host and we are so thankful they have offered their meeting room! Those of you who have not been to Barley Hopsters will be amazed at the beverage selection.

We had 31 people attend in April. Please share the event with others…our growth is due to everyone helping to spread the word.

Questions or to RSVP: sevanko@delawareo.com.

In case you cannot attend this event, we meet again the third Wednesday in June (18th).

PREMIER Networking Event Recap (March 19, 2014)

image Our third event of 2014 defies description. I am truly stunned by the turnout and level of excitement we had Wednesday night.

I want to extend a big, deep and heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended. Without every one of you and your enthusiasm, these events would not have taken off and become “the thing” to do on a third Wednesday in Delaware!

Here’s what happened…. We had people actually show up early! Our normal start time is 6pm and we had 10 folks already there before then. When I totaled up attendance, an amazing 31 people had signed in.

We networked for about one hour and then did announcements and prize drawings. Our sponsors this month all said a few words and gave some updates (Ohio Machine, D. J. Young, attorney (Firestone, Brehm, Wolf, Whitney & Young), The Boy Scouts and DelawareO.

During the networking time, we got a first hand glimpse of technology in action. Mike Cairns of Infinite Impact demonstrated aerial photography. He took one picture indoors and then sent up a drone to photograph the water tower.

The Boy Scouts Scouts of America Simion Kenton Council donated two tins of popcorn, Alpha Group donated a mug and coaster made at their workshop and Mark Schreiber donated the prize of the evening – a $125 certificate to get your CCW permit. (And Mark extended an offer good to all attendees – $50 off of his March 29th class. Contact him to reserve your spot in class.)

After the networking, many of us remained and had dinner. I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and extra gravy (of course). If you have not been to the Corner Café in Delaware in a while, I suggest giving them a try. They are good people serving good food in a comfortable atmosphere.

Please keep spreading the word about this monthly event. It is free to attend and is open to any business person, those active in local social media or anyone wanting to get out meet fellow “locals.” The next three months we will be at Barley Hopsters downtown…an even better reason to get out and network!

Two Of DelawareO’s Own Celebrate MILESTONES Today!

Happy Birthday! HBD

Join us in wishing a “Happy Birthday” to DelawareO team members Hannah Kern and Rocky VanBrimmer. Both celebrate a MILESTONE birthday today, March 21.

As an advisory, it is best to stay off the sidewalks of Delaware as Hannah has announced she is getting her driving permit today since she is at her Sweet 16.

Additionally, Rocky’s family will be out and about today finding a nice quiet relaxing retirement community for him to spend his twilight days as he is “Over The Hill” at the ripe old age of 40.

March for Art – Another First Friday Success!

March for Art 2014 (1) IMG_20140307_210025Friday night March 7, 2014 will be remembered. It was a night of beautiful weather after what can arguably be dubbed “the worst winter in Ohio ever.”

People were out, energy was in the air and 46 degrees felt like a heat wave. (When we did the Chocolate Walk video for the DelawareO Video Show just 4 weeks ago, it was 6 degrees!)

The event was sponsored by Main Street Delaware and Button Up (more on this business later). Here is the event summary from the Main Street web page:  “25 local galleries exhibiting artwork from Delaware City Schools.  The official ‘Gallery Opening’ will be held in participating locations on First Friday in March and the exhibit will remain up in the downtown for your perusal through the end of the month.” So even if you missed our young talent, you still have 3 weeks to take it in.March for Art 2014 (6) IMG_20140307_180444 (2)

Part of our mission at DelawareO is to help promote a healthy and vibrant downtown. This is not to exclude anyone else from the four corners of Delaware County, but to start here and work our way out.

March for Art 2014 (5) IMG_20140307_183716Since art was the focus, let’s get to it. I loved walking around and seeing what our kids created. Having no art talent myself, I was amazed at what I saw. It was fun to enter in to the different stores to see what was on display. The downtown merchants I spoke with were loving the traffic this event generated to their stores.  What catches my eye is the use of color and dimension.

March for Art 2014 (2) IMG_20140307_205207The sponsor of the event was Button Up (a gallery of hand-made art). I was able to speak briefly with the owner, Kathleen Miller. Her store had quite a buzz…they were previewing new watercolors by Mary Morrison. I have prints of her work in my insurance office and love them!

We’ll be back for “Mascot Madness” on Friday, April 5, 2014. Plans are to have the video crew there too. So if you see our team, be sure to tell us “I want to be part of the DelawareO Video Show”  …we may just have the chance to make you famous.March for Art 2014 (4) IMG_20140307_193111
