Delaware Area Career Center On Precautionary Lockdown

Delaware Area Career Center Lockdown Is Preventative Measure

Delaware, Ohio -Alicia Mowery, Public Information Officer of Delaware Area Career Center (DACC),  confirmed today the DACC North Campus is on a “precautionary lockdown,” and “no one is on campus posing an immeadiate threat.”

The lock down stems from an altercation on campus yesterday between two students.

Per Mowery one of the students made a threat to come back to the school today to escalate the situation. According to Mowery, that student is not on campus today and no one is in immediate danger. Mowery continued  that this threat is based on “rumors from students” and  “hear say” that has not been confirmed.

Mowery went on to stress that “safety is our number one priority” and  the campus is safe and secure.

Delaware, Ohio – Some people have hobbies, Bill Grubb has fire. He is the Fire Charter Director for the Delaware Area Career Center and a Firefighter for the City of Columbus. Even though he splits his time between two jobs, he excels in both roles. On September 17, 2014 Bill Grubb was recognized as the Ohio Fire Service Instructor of the Year by State Fire Marshall Larry Flowers and the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

What makes Bill such a great Fire Instructor is his love for firefighting. Coming from a family of firefighters, Bill has fire in his blood. He has been in and out of fire houses since he was eight years old. He spent a lot of time with his grandfather who was a Fire Chief and his father and uncle, both of whom served as Fire Officers. Bill’s first official duties as an eight-year-old were to turn the lights on outside the fire house and to open the garage door. Two of Bill’s sons completed the DACC Fire Program and they both work for MedCare Ambulance. Bill’s wife Lisa is a former firefighter. Lisa currently volunteers her time at DACC to take pictures, to proctor tests and manage paperwork for the Fire Program.

As Fire Charter Director at DACC, Bill provides oversight and leadership for both the High School and Adult Education Fire Programs. Both programs are taught the same curriculum and have

similar results.  “The only difference between our adult and high school students is their age,” Grubb explains. Scott Palmer, Director of Adult Education at DACC adds, “It is uncommon for adult and high school classes to be taught using a similar curriculum and method. Our Fire Program at DACC is model of how it should be done.”

Palmer adds, “Our school is grateful and fortunate to have Bill Grubb as our Fire Charter Director. He is well respected by local fire departments and that serves us well. Most importantly, Bill is committed to the success of our high school and adult students. Our Fire Service Training Program is successful because of the stewardship and leadership of Bill Grubb and the strong commitment of our instructors.”

Delaware, Ohio, July 14th, 2014. Brooke Mack, Kendall Dorsey, and Tyler Thomas did not know each other at the beginning of the school year. By July, though, they had spent countless hours together and travelled to Kansans City, Missouri to compete and claim the title of National Champions at the National SkillsUSA competition in the Chapter Display category.

As students at the Delaware Area Career Center, Brooke, Kendall, and Tyler participate in the SkillsUSA organization, which helps students prepare to be skilled and effective in their industry. Members of SkillsUSA compete against each other at the local, state, and national levels. More than 5,000 students competed at this year’s SkillsUSA competition in over 94 occupational and leadership skills areas. [Read more…]

You have the Diploma…What Now?

I’m finally done! I’ve managed to acquire that little piece of paper as proof that I’m equipped to take on the world, make my own way, and pay an ungodly amount of student loans!  The question is…now what?

The summer in between senior year of high school and the first year of college is supposedly of great importance to the recent graduate.  It’s the summer before you have to enter

Sunset from Roloson Road, Berlin Twp.

As half of the inspiration for 3 B’s and K Road, the townships of Brown and Berlin include the north end of Alum Creek State Park.  While an earlier article explored the park area, there is much more to know about these townships.

Before any permanent settlers arrived, the northeast quarter of present day Brown Township was designated by the federal government as a Salt Reservation.  This section of land just north of present day [Read more…]
