Buckeye Valley says “Au Revoir” to long time teacher Deborah Fowler

Eiffel Tower

“Bonjour.  Je m’appelle Madame.  J’aime jardiner.”  These were the first French words I learned three years ago.  It’s amazing how one can start with a vocabulary of eight words, and then three years later have a vocabulary of a few hundred.  My high school French class has been instrumental in finding my love of language, and understanding how fun it is to learn another language.    I never thought I could do it before.  I owe it all to BV’s French teacher, Deborah Fowler (known to us students as “Madame”).  Madame is

U.S. Army salutes Buckeye Valley High School football star

The U.S. Army will march into Buckeye Valley High School gym today, November 1, 2013 to select Buckeye Valley High School offensive lineman standout Wyatt Pfeifer for the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio on January 4, 2014.

“Pfeifer is a talented athlete whose leadership and teamwork qualities have made him a standout at Buckeye Valley High School,” said Mark Davis, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Marketing. “Only the strongest wear the Army colors, and are proud to welcome all of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl players and commend each of them on their selection.”

During the ceremony Pfeifer will receive his honorary All-American Bowl jersey from local soldiers in front his friends, family, teammates and classmates. Not only will the event honor Pfeifer, but the U.S. Army also will recognize his coach, acknowledging the leadership and teamwork used to develop each All-American athlete.

By becoming a U.S. Army All-American, Pfeifer joins an elite fraternity. Only 90 high school football players out of millions in the nation are selected to participate each year. Athletes are chosen not just because they excel on the football field, but because they possess the strengths similar to our Army Strong Soldiers of mental, emotional and physical toughness. Pfeifer also will join the ranks of talented alumni comprised of NFL stars and Heisman Trophy winners, including Andrew Luck, Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow.

As part of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, each player selected to play in the game is honored at a Selection Tour event in his hometown. The tour crosses the country through late fall and by its end will have selected 90 players, in addition to 125 band and color guard members who will participate in the game on Jan. 4, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. Annually, the All-American Bowl is the Army’s largest public outreach effort, allowing the Army to share its story with tens of millions of people.

28 Second Quarter Points Paces Hayes Over Barons

Buckeye Valley, Delaware Hayes Celebrates 50-years of Rivalry

The pomp and circumstance that signifies the start of high school football season was on display early and often in Delaware on Friday night with Hayes playing host to Buckeye Valley.

In the end it wasn’t the pomp and circumstance that was happening early and often as the Pacers lit up the scoreboard for 28 second quarter points en route to a 51-0 victory over the Barons in non-league action.

But it looked like anything but the final score early in the contest. Hayes (1-0) athletic defense was keeping the Barons (0-1) offense off balance, but Buckeye Valley’s scrappy defense kept pushing back.

“We played hard, but with anything you never know how well you played until you go back and look at the tape,” said Hayes coach Zebb Schroeder. “Wasn’t happy with how we’d have a good play and a negative play in the first quarter. For us to do what we want to do offensively we can’t have negative plays. We have to go back and get those fixed this week.”

Schroeder’s point was highlighted on the Pacer’s first offensive play from scrimmage when junior Cody Wooten put the ball on the turf. The Pacers recovered and put together a 9-play 51-yard drive that was capped with a Wooten 3-yard touchdown run for the early 7-0 lead.

The Barons answered back with their best offensive drive of the night when facing a 3-4 at the Hayes 49, senior quarterback Kyle Doubikin dropped back to pass only to be sacked to end the drive by junior Lamar Rhymes.

And that’s when the flood gates opened for the Hayes offensively and defensively.

Following the punt, Wooten exploded off the left-side for a 72-yard run that was called back for an illegal block. Hayes would slow it down and go eight plays to cover that 72-yards and cap it off with a 19-yard touchdown run by Thoeun Sorn.

And the Pacers offense was off and running at that point. But equally impressive – if not more so – was the defense which limited Buckeye Valley to 10 total yards on nine offensive second quarter plays on four possessions.

“We talk to our kids about getting better every day,” said Buckeye Valley coach Michael Marshall. “It was obvious tonight with what we tried to do offensively, defensively, and on special teams that we didn’t get better today.”

The Pacers offense was led by Wooten with 14 carries for 141 yards and two touchdowns, while senior Anthony Hinton added 7 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown. senior Sorn ended up with 3 carries for 40 yards and the touchdown and sophomore Caleb Cooper notched 9 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown late in the contest.

Senior Deshawn Haynes carried 8 times for 24 yards to lead Barons offensive attack, while Doubikin was 2-of-5 passing for 13 yards and an interception.

The Barons return to the gridiron at 7 p.m. on Friday night at home against Fisher Catholic (0-0). The Pacers will be on the road at Canal Winchester (0-1) which dropped its opener 41-6 to Olentangy.
