Delaware Ohio’s PREMIER Meetup/Networking Event – Wednesday, August 20, 2014

We meet again Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 at Blend of Seven Winery in Delaware (481 London Rd. ) from 6 to 8 pm. If you arrive and the lot appears full, there is an overflow parking lot to the west.

Please join us if you are a local business person or active in local social media. Can you think of a better way to spend a Wednesday night in mid-August? Plus you can enjoy a selection of wines made at the location.

Corporate sponsors this month include  Delaware, Ohio’s hometown professional lacrosse team The Ohio Machine, The Preserve at Quail Pass, DFC Screen Printing and Delaware Insurance Advisors,  We will again have announcements and the usually unpredictable business card drawing. If you wish to donate a gift for the drawing, let me know.

We start at 6 PM and network for about 50 minutes. We have announcements, do some prize give aways and then network some more. 

We will have food catered in by the Final Score. In order to get a proper count, please RSVP by 08/18/2014 if you are planning to eat with us. The cost will be $7.75 and here is sampling of what they may bring: Buffet Style: Salad, Ribs, Loaded Potato Salad, Super Subs, Pizza, and Chicken Salad Wraps

ICYMI – Delaware Ohio’s PREMIER Meetup/Networking event July meeting wrap up

On Wednesday July 16, 2014 we held our monthly third Wednesday meetup. These meetings are held so local business people and those active in local social media can come together in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Many thanks to our gracious hosts, Steve and Sandi Weddington of the Blend of Seven Winery. We encourage everyone to go out and visit their shop located at 481 London Rd in Delaware, OH.

We do thank the 30+ people who attended!

The event was two solid hours of meeting and networking with local business people. In addition to the fine selection of wines made on-site, we had the Kona Ice truck there for dessert treats. Jimmie G’s BBQ had his food trailer outside. Both the pulled pork and brisket were tasted and highly recommended!

We are at the same location on August 20th. This time we will have a catered selection of food from the Final Score. Since food will be brought in, we need an RSVP from everyone who will be dining. The cost is $7.75 per person. You may reply to sevanko@delawareo.com.

We meet from 6 to 8 pm and will be at the Blend of Seven Winery again on September 17th.

There are no fees to attend and meetings are open to all. Your only cost is your own food and beverage. Come out, join us and meet some locals active in your community.

A Profile of Chad Wiedmaier: Ohio Machine Defenseman

Chad Wiedmaier is a graduate from Princeton University who lives in New York, but for Delaware citizens he is known as a defensive player for The Ohio Machine.

Wiedmaeir started lacrosse when he moved to New Jersey in second grade but did not play on an actual team till he was in 5th grade.  “Everyone in my town plays lacrosse,” Wiedmaier said. “So my cousin threw me a stick and I really wasn’t expecting it. I’m like the first generation in my family to play lacrosse, so it kinda literally fell into my hands and I’ve went from there.”

What some people don’t realize is most of the Ohio Machine players don’t live in town, they live all over. So on a game weekend Wiedmaier and his teammate fly in on a Friday morning, have practice Friday evening, do a walk trough the next morning followed by the game Saturday evening.

Wiedmaier started playing defense because he was the “bigger” kid when he was younger. “But the weird thing is I’ve played defense in every sport I’ve ever played so I guess something just clicked in me”.

Wiedmaier also holds a job when he is not playing for the Ohio Machine at Trilogy Lacrosse located in New York City. He is the Marketing Associate for the company.

In his spare time Wiedmaier really likes to travel.”I really like to just go on random adventures. In New York City there is something different to do or explore or find everyday. I guess I’m really an adventurist enthusiast.”Wiedmaier said.

Wiedmaier’s favorite moment playing Lacrosse was when Princeton won the Ivy League title during his senior year. “And that was just a big deal cause my senior class was very strong when we were there. So I just remember that feeling and I’ll always remember that.”

When asked how a young player can improve at Lacrosse Wiedmaier said,  “Defiantly just have a stick in your hand. Everyone just says play wall ball that’s like everyone defacto response. But I’m just saying having a stick in your hands and doing something lacrosse related like shooting, hitting a wall, or catching a pass will improve anyone’s game.”

The Ohio Machine have a record of 2 wins and 3 losses. Wiedmaier himself has played in all 5 games this season with a total of 6 ground balls and counting.

Wiedmaier and his teammates can be seen in action this Friday during  The Ohio Machine verses the Boston Cannons game at Selby Stadium. Game time is 8:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased through The Ohio Machine Website.

Ohio Machine “officially” opens new office with ribbon cutting ceremony

Earlier this afternoon there was a celebration going on. The Ohio Machine (Central Ohio’s professional lacrosse team) officially held the ribbon cutting ceremony at their new offices in Powell, OH. They are located at 3811 Attucks Dr., which is in between Old Sawmill Rd and Sawmill Parkway. The offices are bright and spacious. An ideal environment to house the brain trust that has made this year’s team both competitive and exciting to watch. We look forward in anticipation to the home opener on May 17, 2014 at Selby Stadium in Delaware OH.
