OSTRANDER, Ohio — A Columbus man was arrested on his 8th OVI charge after crashing into a pole in Delaware County Saturday morning.
The crash happened 12:14 a.m. on March 25 at the northwest corner of U.S. 36 and Smart Road. That’s just outside of Ostrander.
According to court documents, nobody was in the car when Delaware County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived. Deputies had word that the car was linked to a report of a drunk driver in the City of Delaware. When they found the car, they were responding to a report of a suspicious person ringing a doorbell in the area of Smart Road and Fontanelle Road.
Deputies found Tyrone Tucker, 43, covered in mud, walking down a driveway on Fontanelle Road. According to court documents, deputies reported a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Tucker. He was verbally uncooperative, according to deputies. Tucker was detained and returned to the scene of the crash. He declined to perform field sobriety tests.
According to deputies, Tucker did not admit to being involved in the crash, but the keys to the car were found in his pocket.
Tucker has seven prior OVIs, including felony OVI charges in 2017 and 2020.
