Delaware’s People In Need Calls For Volunteers

PIN2016 Produce Market Volunteer

Produce Market Basics:

Produce Markets are designed to provide fresh food to individuals and families in need. The Mid-Ohio Food Bank supplies all of the produce distributed at the Market and most of what is offered is fruits and vegetables but may also include bread and dairy items. Each Market can serve up to 300 families and eligibility is set at 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. After each event is completed, any remaining produce is distributed to PIN food pantry clients and other MOFB Partner Agencies as needed.

In addition to PIN staff, each Market event needs approximately 10-15 volunteers to assist with this important project.


The 2016 events are scheduled on the last Wednesday of the month, March through November.

Distribution Times:

2:30 to 4:30 PM

Volunteer Basics:

Recruited volunteers should arrive at least 30 minutes prior the market start time. We are asking for volunteers to show up between 1:30 and 2:00 PM and stay until the Market is closed at 4:30 PM.

Parking at the PIN facility is limited. Volunteers are to park in the Office City Parking lot across the street from PIN. Carpooling is strongly encouraged.

The Markets are outside events and are held rain or shine, hot or cold; so please come prepared!

Volunteer jobs include: market set up, client sign in, assist clients to collect produce and move through the line, traffic control, and, clean up

Ohio Machine Announces 12-Man Protected Roster Ahead of Expansion Draft

COLUMBUS, OHIO (October 8, 2015) – The Ohio Machine has named its 12-man protected list for the upcoming 2016 Major League Lacrosse Expansion Draft, it was announced today by Machine Vice President & Head Coach Bear Davis. The 2016 MLL Expansion Draft will take place on Wednesday, November 18 when the Atlanta Blaze is set to make its first roster moves.

Teams had the option of protecting either 10 or 12 players. The Machine protected 12 players; three attackmen, four midfielders, three defensemen, one faceoff specialist and one goalie. Included in the Machine’s 12-Man Protected List are the club’s top six scorers from last season. The Machine protected 82.3 percent of its offensive production from 2015, its starting goalie, and two of the MLL’s top four leaders in caused turnovers.

Players not protected will be eligible to be selected in the 2016 Expansion Draft. During the Expansion Draft, once a team loses three players, that team can pull a player back on its roster. From each subsequent player lost, that team can pull back another player. A team can lose a maximum of six players. Players not selected in the 2016 Expansion Draft will be eligible to return to their original teams.

Delaware, Ohio Fall Events For Sweater Weather



It’s that time of year again where Delaware folks start their preparations for the fall weather and traditions that come with it! If you’re looking to try something new that’s family friendly and has that fall spirit, keep your calendars marked for these upcoming events.

Alum Creek’s Fall Campout – October 2nd
Make your way to Alum Creek’s Campground and enjoy an evening of pumpkin decorating, hiking on haunted trails, trick or treating around the campground, and several games and contests. This is a great event for families and anyone who wants to experience Halloween early!

2015 5k Pumpkin Run & 1 Mile Walk – October 3rd, 8am
In support of Live Strong, there will be a 5k race and 1 mile walk at OWU’s Selby Stadium. Entry fee is $30 for the run, and $20 for the walk. There will also be a kid’s sprint at 9am with a $5 entrance fee.

Race for the Soul – October 3d, 9am
The Columbus Zoo will be hosting their 9th annual Race for the Soul to bring awareness for the needs of people all throughout Central Ohio such as food, clean drinking water, medical attention, and emotional support. There will be a kids run at 8:45, and a 5k run or 1 mile walk around the zoo at 9. Entry fee is $15-40, depending on whether or not you have a zoo membership and what race you run in.
Powell Oktoberfest – October 3rd, 12pm-10pm
The Village Green Amphitheater Pavillion will be hosting their annual Oktoberfest featuring live German music and entertainment, food trucks, and activities for all ages.

Kilbourne Community Fall Festival – October 3rd, 8am
Enjoy a full day of fall fun and activities starting with a delicious breakfast from 8-10am; followed by a hog roast, petting zoo and games along with crafts and a flea market (9am-4pm) Also. enjoy stories and historical displays relevant to the local area.
Oakland Nursery’s Fall Festival – October 10th-11th                                                                                                                                                                     Oakland will be hosting their 35th annual Fall Festival at all their store locations this year! There will be a haunted house, a petting zoo, balloon art, pumpkin painting, and sales on merchandise. Don’t miss out on this fall-filled event.

Miller’s Country Gardens Fall Festival – October 11th, 12pm
Take a hayride through the pumpkin patch and explore the corn maze at this great fall event at Miller Country Gardens in Delaware. There will also be Pumpkin Express barrel rides, face painting, balloon sculpturing, live music by “In A Jam”, and great food by Sock Hop Soda Shop.

Campfire at Stratford Ecological Center – October 16th, 6pm-8pm
Make your reservations quick for this great night of fall fun and camping out. This is a great event for smaller kids. There will be a wagon ride through the Stratford woods, popcorn and cider, hiking, and storytelling.

The Central Ohio Symphony is entering into their 37th year of fantastic music and performance. Their season debut concert will be shown at the Gray Chapel in Delaware. Tickets can be ordered at

Leed’s Pumpkin Farm
Located in Ostrander, this is a place I always looked forward to visiting every fall when I was a kid. There are fields of pumpkins to go picking for, hayrides and petting zoos, ziplines, and great snacks. I definitely recommend this place for all ages. They are open every Saturday and Sunday through October 31st.

Parking Lot, Bike Path Seal Coating Scheduled

City of Delaware to Refresh Looks of Bike Path and Parking Lots.

DELAWARE – Black Dawg Seal Coating will be seal coating city parking lots and bike paths in September.

Work on the Winter Street and William Street parking lots will take September 28-October 1, weather permitting, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Winter St. parking lot will be completely closed to traffic during the sealing coating process. The William St. parking lot will be sealed in sections with the eastern half being completed first. Access to the western half will be available utilizing the entrance off Union Street. During work on the western half, access to the eastern section will be available by entering off William St. and exiting using Union St. When the Union St access way is being seal coated, access to the parking lot will be restricted. Public questions may be directed to the Customer Service Request Line at 740-203-1810.

Bike path seal coating bike will take place September 22-25, weather permitting, 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Crews will seal the trail running between Noble St. and Henry St; and the trail running along Henry St, from Wilmer St to William St

Portions of Park Avenue to Close

Rail Crossing and Waterline Work to Affect Area

DELAWARE – Park Avenue will be closed at the CSX rail crossing and at Montrose Avenue, starting next week.

CSX will close Park Ave. to through traffic September 28-October 5, weather permitting, to repair the crossing.

On Monday, Sept. 28., ongoing water line work will require closing Park Ave. at the Montrose Ave. intersection for one day, weather permitting.
