DELAWARE, Ohio — A Delaware man will spend 4-6 years in prison for a 2022 attack against his mother.
According to court documents, Tracy Jones, 30, attacked his mother in her home on April 6, 2022. Prosecutors said the attack began with Jones hitting her at least three times with a closed fist. He then tried to stab her with a kitchen knife, causing a cut to her hand.
The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries. Due to the severity of the injuries, she was transferred to a Columbus hospital for further treatment.
Jones was arrested at the scene of the assault, where police said Jones told them ‘I’m Sorry’ and ‘It’s my fault.”
A grand jury indicted Jones on kidnapping and felonious assault charges. He pleaded guilty to felonious assault.
Before sentencing, defense attorneys argued that the 10 months already served in the Delaware County Jail, an additional two months in jail, community based treatment, and probation would be an appropriate sentence. They cited a history of mental health and substance abuse issues as contributing to the attack.
Jones was ultimately sentenced to a minimum prison term of four years, with a maximum of six years. He was given credit for 285 days in jail prior to sentencing. He will also be subject to 18 months of community control after release.
