DELAWARE, Ohio — A suspected drunk driver wound up flipped on his side while trying to flee a traffic stop in Delaware.
The incident started as a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of RNR Tire Express on South Sandusky Street on Feb. 8. When police pulled up, an officer found a 2006 Honda Civic stopped in the middle of the parking lot.
As the officer approached the car, the driver pulled out of the lot and went east on Bernard Avenue. He then turned right on Sandusky Street, then another right on Harrison. The car then spend down Harrison and hit a parked car.
The car ended up coming to a rest with the driver’s side door facing down. The driver then climbed out the passenger side window and dropped to the ground. Responding officers stayed with the driver until medic came and took him into an area hospital.
The driver was cited for OVI refusal, fleeing, driving under suspension, running a stop sign and operating without reasonable control. Charges are pending in Delaware Municipal Court. As those charges are all misdemeanors, DelawareO is not naming the suspect.
