Delaware Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol looks into deadly crash.
TROY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic two-vehicle crash that claimed a life earlier today. The incident occurred on June 23, 2023, at approximately 1352 hours on US 23 near TR 279 in Troy Township.
According to preliminary reports, Ruben K. Otchere, a 44-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, was traveling southbound on US 23 in a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia. At the same time, Gina M. Diloreto, a 44-year-old from Delaware, Ohio, was driving a 2007 Honda Accord eastbound on TR 279. Tragically, Diloreto failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with the Freightliner.
Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene and declared Ms. Diloreto deceased. Fortunately, Mr. Otchere emerged from the accident without sustaining any injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision, providing some measure of protection.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from various agencies during the response and investigation, including the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Tri Township Fire, Delaware County EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Authorities have indicated that alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. Nevertheless, the investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement working diligently to determine the precise cause and circumstances leading up to the incident.
Following the collision, US 23 experienced a diversion of traffic for several hours. However, the road has since been reopened, restoring regular flow.
