Canadian Wildfire Impact: Delaware County Grapples with Lingering Hazy Skies
DELAWARE, Ohio — Delaware County residents are bracing themselves for the fourth consecutive day of hazy conditions, as the impact of the Canadian wildfires lingers. The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has issued another Air Quality Alert for the region, highlighting that particle pollution levels are likely to remain unhealthy for sensitive groups on Friday, June 30.
According to the forecast, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for particle pollution, specifically PM2.5, is expected to reach a level of 102 on Friday. While light southerly to southwesterly winds are gradually transporting lower particle concentrations into the region each day, the significant carryover of pollutants across the area will keep particle levels elevated.

Thursday’s air quality is anticipated to be unhealthy, with an AQI level indicating poor conditions. On Friday, the AQI is forecasted to remain unhealthy for sensitive groups, underscoring the ongoing impact of the Canadian wildfires on Delaware County’s air quality.
As the smoke gradually decreases, the transportation of particles into the region is expected to lessen. However, the overall pollutant presence will still contribute to elevated particle levels, warranting continued vigilance and caution.
Sensitive groups, including active children, older adults, and individuals with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), should take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to the compromised air quality.

MORPC will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary. It is essential for residents to remain informed and prioritize their health and well-being during these challenging atmospheric conditions.
