DELAWARE, Ohio — A man with a lengthy record of indecent exposure charges is now facing prison time for a felony charge of public indecency.
This most recent offense involved Earle A. Nevel targeting young women and minor girls, continuing a disturbing pattern that has spanned over a decade.
Nevel was arrested and charged after the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in June, 2021 from a juvenile at Alum Creek in Lewis Center, on a report of a male exposing himself to minors. According to the juvenile’s account, Nevel was seen walking around the area wearing only a thong. He proceeded to circle the juveniles, maintain eye contact, dance and “twerk” to their music, and finally exposed himself while masturbating.
Following his arrest, Nevel was released on bond and absconded supervision, leading to an active warrant from January 11, 2022, until his apprehension in April 2023. His trial, conducted on June 16, 2023, resulted in a guilty verdict. The State of Ohio presented its sentencing memorandum for the court on July 11, seeking a 12-month prison sentence.
During the trial, the juvenile victims recounted their encounter with Nevel. They described him circling them in a secluded area of the woods, appearing and disappearing multiple times before he began dancing and exposing himself. The traumatized victims were able to find help and point out Nevel to the authorities, leading to his arrest.
Nevel’s previous convictions include public indecency, open container, contempt of court, and carrying concealed weapons. He even faces pending charges for assault and disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred while he was in jail for the current offense.
A decision on Nevel’s sentencing is expected on July 17.
